Game 1: 6/21/2021 (Mets win 4-2)
Game 2: 6/21/2021 (Braves win 1-0)
Game 3: 6/22/21, 7:10 PM (Braves win 3-0)
New day, same offense for the Mets as they got shutout again by a score of 3-0. The Mets haven’t scored in the last 17 innings. I am going to be brutally honest here, the Mets lineup on paper was not a pleasant sight to look at with Billy McKinney as your three hitter. Pete Alonso got the night off and with his big bat on the bench, that can only hurt your offense. Luis Guillorme and Albert Almora Jr. aren’t MLB talent and should be making their way to Syracuse which is the Mets triple-a affiliate. Dominic Smith, James McCann and Kevin Pillar who were batting 4th, 5th and 6th respectively are all hitting under .250. Francisco Lindor, it pains me to say this but this guy can’t hit a beachball if it was laying on a tee for you.
After going 0-4 last night, “Mr.Smile” is now hitting .212. If you are making more than 300 million dollars, that is flat out unacceptable. Also, Luis Rojas, the Mets Manager, I don’t care how much money Lindor is making, with that average he should not be a 2 hole hitter. Marcus Stroman, who got the start for New York, was injured in the second inning due to hip soreness. The “Stro-Show” tried to work it out on the mound but was eventually taken off the field walking alongside the training staff. Yennsy Díaz came on in relief in a very tough situation and eventually worked out of a bases loaded, 1 out jam, then ended in a Ronald Acuña Jr. strikeout.
The next inning was a different story for Díaz, as he served up a 3 run homer to Dansby Swanson which would lead to be the only run scoring at bat of the night. Drew Smith, Aaron Loup and Trevor May threw 6 innings of scoreless relief to keep the game at a 3 run deficit. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jerad Eickhoff I repeat Jerad Eickhoff, who is a pitcher got an infield hit to break up history. The Mets only other hit would be a two out double by James McCann in the bottom of the ninth inning. Charlie Morton for the Braves couldn’t have been much better tonight. Going 7 scoreless innings and striking out 11. A.J. Minter and Will Smith combined for two scoreless innings in relief for Atlanta to seal the deal. The win went to Charlie Morton while the loss went to Yennsy Díaz. Will Smith picked up the save.

The Mets will try and at least even this four game series tomorrow with Tylor Megill on the mound making his major league debut going up against Braves pitcher Kyle Wright. That game will be played at 7:10 PM at Citi Field. If you can’t make it to Flushing, which I highly recommend considering we don’t score runs, you can listen to game on WCBS 880 or watch it on SNY/MLBN.
