Game 1: 9/10/21, 7:10 PM (Mets win 10-3)

Yankees continue to embarrass themselves and get crushed by the Mets as they continue their free fall in the midst of a pennant race. Jordan Montgomery was awful and his defense was horrible too. Gary set the tone when he missed an easy tag at home plate, where Gallo from left field delivered a strike. The throw beat him by a good 20 feet and Gary missed the tag. Monty only ended up giving up that 1 run in the 1st inning but then unraveled in the 3rd giving up 5 runs and 1 in the 4th. That’s a pitching performance the Yanks can’t afford to have in September baseball! The offense continued to be underwhelming. Yanks scored their first 2 runs in the 1st and 2nd respectively. A Judge RBI groundout and a Gallo solo homer gave the Bronx boys a 2-1 lead. That went away quickly. They wouldn’t score until Rizzo hit a meaningless homer in the 9th to make it 10-3. The bullpen wasn’t good either. Rodriguez and Michael King both gave up runs. Don’t understand how a team goes from winning 13 straight games to now losing 11 of the last 13. Monty got the loss and Tylor Megill took the win. Same time same place tomorrow on the anniversary of the horrible tragedy of 9/11.

Game 2: 9/11/21, 7:10 PM (Yanks win 8-7)

Yanks finally break their long losing streak with a gut wrenching emotional win in Queens. Man this was much needed. They led 5-0 at one point and blew it yet again. Corey Kluber wasn’t very good, he was given a 5-0 lead and proceeded to give up 4 runs over 4 innings. Higashioka and Gardner both smacked 2-run homers and Judge drilled his 31st homer of the year to make it 5-0. The Mets scored 7 unanswered runs and things were not looking good at all. Fortunately, Judge had something to say about that and mashed a majestic game tying 2-run homer in the 8th. Luke Voit came in as a pinch hitter and belted a double play grounder but luckily Javy Baez threw the ball away allowing the go ahead runner to score and eventually give the Yankees a much needed 8-7 victory. Chapman shut the door in the 9th to pick up the save. Clay Holmes got the win and Trevor May took the loss. What a great game and an amazing night to honor the fallen heroes of September 11th. Sunday night baseball in Queens tomorrow, win the series.

Game 3: 9/12/21, 8:05 PM (Mets win 7-6)

The Yanks drop the rubber match on SNB and continue their miserable stretch. Clarke Schmidt got the spot start and wasn’t very good although his defense was awful as well. Yanks took a 2-0 lead in the 1st off Carlos Carrasco on a Stanton RBI double and Gallo sac fly. Cool fact: Gallo’s sac fly was only his 2nd sac fly of his career. Very weird considering he’s a fly ball hitter. Judge left the game after 2 at bats with dizziness, Boone said he should be good to go tomorrow. Mets would score 5 unanswered runs to take a 5-2 lead. Fortunately, Torres smashed a 2-run homer to cut it to 6-4 and Stanton belted a 2-run homer of his own to tie the game. As Stanton was rounding the bases, he had some words for Lindor and Baez and benches would clear. Lindor earlier in the game was chirping at Torres and Wandy Peralta as he hit a homer so Stanton did it right back. Chad Green would pitch the 8th and serve up a solo go ahead homer to Lindor, his 3rd homer of the game. Green has been a liability as of late especially in close games. Unbelievable. Yanks made it interesting in the 9th with 2nd and 3rd 2 outs and Stanton up but he popped up to end the game. Seth Lugo got the win and Green got the loss. Edwin Diaz picked up the save.

My thoughts:

These last 2 weeks have been a complete disaster and the Yankees are doing themselves no favors with poor fielding and poor pitching. It was nice the last 2 games to finally see the offense put up runs and see some clutch hits. Although, we are at a point in the season where all facets of the game have to be done well. Luckily for the Yanks, their schedule gets really soft over the next 2 weeks, with matchups against the Twins, Orioles, Indians, and Rangers before the final week against their division foes. Better start winning and doing it quickly before it’s too late.

What’s next?

The Mets continue their home stand with the St. Louis Cardinals for a big 3 game set with NL wild card positioning on the line. The Yankees go back to the Bronx for 1 game makeup rain out against the Twins with Luis Gil on the mound. These are must win games against bad teams. Steer the ship!
